One Step Out of Darkness

looking out

This picture is of a man peering out through the window of an ancient fort. The man in the photograph is my father-in-law and the place is Nahargarh fort in Jaipur, in the Indian state of Rajasthan.

The fort built atop a hilI overlooking the city of Jaipur appeals to everyone’s fascination. As we walked through the cold, dark and empty corridors of the fort, I tried to recreate in my mind what kind of a place it must have been in it’s hey day; bustling with activity of people both martial and civilian. But the dark stone walls hardly effused any heat to help remind us of the bygone days. However this is just the story behind the picture.

This picture reminds me of something else as well. I remember that someone said to me once, when I was going through a rough phase in my life,

“When you are down, when you feel demoralized, negativity creeps in and everything seems to be dark, life becomes depressing. It is this negativity, this darkness, out of which, if you have the will power to rescue yourself, you will see the light.”

You just need to step out of the darkness within you to find the light. This is the story in the picture.
